Cross-country ski trail, ski slope or indoor athletics track…

Our O-SEE Athletics athletes competed in the Saxony Championships at the indoor athletics arena in Chemnitz over the past two weekends. Strong competition awaited them, and the question was... could we keep up?

In the U14 category, one O-SEE girls' and one boys' relay team competed in the 3x800m relay. The girls, consisting of Margarethe, Ellie, and Marlene, finished 4th, while the boys, with Julius, Kay, and Justus, came in 5th. The internal club competition, "girls versus boys," was won by the boys, who recorded the faster finishing time (8:19 min to 8:26 min). However, the girls faced stiffer competition with 14 other relay teams.

Noah sprinted into the 60m final in the M15 category with a new personal best of 7.54 seconds and sensationally won the bronze medal. Finally, not fourth place! That was a real coup. His excellent sprinting form also helped him achieve a respectable 40.91 seconds in the 300m, securing fifth place.

Franta also achieved 4th place in the M15 category with the 4kg shot put and a respectable distance of 10.40m. This represents steady progress throughout the winter season. Annabell competed in the W15 300m race and finished well.

Our two Sophias also competed in the newly formed U18 age group as the younger competitors, where they faced stiff competition from older athletes. While one Sophia achieved a respectable 14th place in the long jump, the other actually won the gold medal in the 400m with a time of 60.23 seconds! The following day, Sophia still had so much energy that she reached the podium in her signature event, the 800m: a silver medal and a new personal best of 2:17 minutes, which also qualified her for the German Youth Indoor Championships. WOW!

Lukas ran the 400m for the first time in the U18 category, performing very well with a time of 52.77 seconds. The following day he also ran the 800m, clocking a remarkable 2:04 minutes. This placed him 5th and 4th respectively amidst strong competition.

Franz also competed in the U18 category, running the 1500m and 800m. He finished 7th and 6th, respectively. He improved his 800m personal best by another second to 2:06 minutes. Julius ran the 800m in a fast 2:28 minutes in the M14 category. He's never been that fast before – a new personal best that he's improved by four seconds.

This exciting athletics weekend concluded with the 4x200m relay race featuring Annabell, Sophia, Lina, and Sophia. Their team spirit and diligent training were rewarded with a valuable silver relay medal – something they'll fondly remember for years to come.

A week earlier, the Saxony Indoor Pentathlon Championships for U14 athletes (long jump, sprint, 60m hurdles, shot put, and 800m) had already taken place. We were also there in Chemnitz for that event. Marlene competed in the U13 age group in a field of over 40 girls. Not every event went perfectly, but a new personal best in the shot put and a good finish in the 800m race ultimately secured her a fantastic top-10 placement. Margarethe competed in the 2000m race walk and earned a solid silver medal.

Sophia and Lina battled their way through the 3000m in the dry indoor air. Their efforts were rewarded with gold and silver medals.

Our haul: 7 medals at this year's Saxony Indoor Championships! The whole team – from young to old – can be proud of that, because who really likes training alone on the pitch several times a week?.
