Talent Cup at the Golden Oval for our 11-year-olds
On May 31, 2026, our 11-year-olds had a special competition. They competed in the preliminary program of the Golden Oval Meeting in Dresden in an 8x50m mixed relay. The meeting took place for the second time in the Heinz-Steyer-Stadium, providing our young athletes with a great stage.
Albrecht, Paul, Simon, and Leon, along with Greta, Lilly, Kathi, and Selma, demonstrated focused baton exchanges. They also sprinted bravely in front of approximately 10,000 spectators, winning their first heat. The subsequent evaluation of all relays resulted in a surprising 4th place out of 16 teams. This was something the coaching team hadn't anticipated, as the day was primarily intended to allow them to experience the professional competitions and soak up the unique atmosphere.
During the meeting, our children seized every opportunity to collect autographs. As a result, the light blue Talents Cup T-shirts quickly filled with signatures. Among those signing were Malaika Mihambo, Rosina Schneider, Marlene Meyer, David Storl, Gina Lückenkemper, Rebekka Haase, and Karl Bebendorf. At the same time, the children demonstrated that they can not only run fast but also present themselves confidently.
Next year, our 10-year-olds will be eligible to compete. Until then, we'll continue practicing our relay exchanges and look forward to participating again. (MA)
