Special classifications O-SEE Challenge
There can never be enough challenges, don't you think?
King/Queen of the Mountains
The King of the Mountains wears a white jersey with red polka dots at the Tour de France, and almost every child knows that. However, not everyone is aware that the O-SEE Challenge has had a comparable ranking for years. This special award recognizes the mountain biker with the fastest time from the O-SEE to the Hochwald summit (748 m). That this achievement received little recognition was partly our fault, as we didn't promote this special ranking enough. Undeservedly so. THAT'S ABOUT TO CHANGE! To make it more popular, we've decided to differentiate this ranking further: XTERRA and Classic riders will now be scored separately, and also separately by gender. We've even given it a (provisional) name: King/Queen of the Mountains. What has remained unchanged despite all the modifications: The only thing that counts is the pure cycling time from the lake to the Turmbaude on the Hochwald – 13 km of climb, climb, climb… Swiss cyclist Xavier Dafflon needed only an incredible 38:14 minutes for this in 2018, thus defending his title as King of the Mountain from 2017. Now, four Kings of the Mountain will be crowned. They will each receive a silver-plated bicycle chain from the goldsmiths at Schmuckdesign Baldauf Zittau, of immeasurable value. A good reason, then, to really put the pressure on the pedals and conquer the Hochwald at breakneck speed. And one more thing: every Classic King of the Mountain who is faster than the competition on the XTERRA course will have a big round of drinks bought for them by the head of the organizing team at the after-race party 🙂
Jawbone
The "Biter's Calf" is a traveling trophy of a very special kind. It's the original cast of Mr. O-SEE's own anatomically unique calf. Benno solemnly swears he achieved such "devices" solely through sporadic, unstructured training and the occasional indulgence in pure beer. The plaster cast was taken in the dimly lit chambers of stonemason Roland Friebolin's gravestone workshop under his "expert" guidance. Since wimpy methods, such as shaving the hair beforehand, were omitted, removing the plaster mold proved to be torture – resulting in all the hair now being embedded in the plaster cast and emerging from there onto the surface of the trophy's calf. It doesn't get more authentic than this. To give it a bit of shine, it was painted with gold bronze and mounted on a solid sandstone base. The whole thing now weighs a good 15 kilos.
The "Beißerwade" award was first presented in 2002. The award is given according to strictly subjective criteria:
- The gifted athlete must possess stamina and have made a name for himself through some "special" performance at the O-SEE Challenge.
- The recipient must come from the circle of the cup donor (so that he has the guarantee that the cup will not be lost).
- The gifted person must also be perfectly fine.
